Won't you please come to Chicago Mayday 2011

Mayday 2011 is the 125th anniversary of the Haymarket incident. My vision is to have unions, socialists, Marxists, communists and anarchists from all across the world to come to Chicago for a parade that is even larger than the one that lead to the Haymarket incident.

From Wikipedia:

The movement's center was in Chicago, where an estimated 40,000 workers went on strike.

If we get participation from across the world I think we should be able to double that number (although my goal is to get 100,000 marching).

  1. Here are some possible activities:
    1. The march itself with banners indicating which union or which group and their location.
    2. Visiting the memorial The Haymarket Martyrs' Monument in Forest Park was is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and as a National Historic Landmark on February 18, 1997.
    3. Meetings both of a strategic and theoretical nature, which we will put onto the net after the meeting is over.
    4. Singing the International which might be a nice way to begin the march

  2. I know I can rely on a number of local unions to render some support; however to pull this off I’ll need a greater participation and work than I alone can do.
    I have purchased the domain:
    Mayday-chicago-2011.com
As a place for everyone to organize their efforts in concert with others from their area of the world.

  3. Locally I am looking for:
    1. A web guru who can do both design and back end work. I have a Mac Server with Web Objects so that we can handle large traffic and withstand DOS attacks
    2. A provider who can do co-location
    3. Facility coordinators who will be able to find places for all the participants to stay especially those who have little money. Here I’m thinking that we can rent out a whole hostel for the event. Since Chicago has so many options for travel we can put people up as far away as Milwaukee or Indiana as there is good consistent train travel.
    4. Venue coordinator who can find us a large enough venue to hold all the meeting we would like to hold.
    5. Writer of proposals—what the heck if we can get the government or an NGO to pay for some of our expenses so much the better.
    6. Many cooks that can cook for a crowd that we are looking for. I am especially thinking of people who have been cooks in the armed services where they had to plan for and feed thousands of people

  4. Internationally I am looking for:
    1. Translators especially English to French, English to Spanish, English to Hebrew, English to Arabic, English to German, English to Italian, English to Russian, English to Polish, English to Japanese and English to Chinese. We’ll start all pages in English work out the bugs and then translate from there.
    2. High level organizers for each continent.
    3. Mid level organizers for each country.
    4. Lower level organizers for each city/location
    5. Grass roots organizers for each union and movement
    6. Heralds who will spread the word and generate interest in every corner of the world.

  5. Let’s show the world not only that we still exist
but also that we are the norm.

Peace to all & I hope to see everyone of you next Mayday
